CWW Week 1 - Day 3 - God Is Love
|
Scripture Passage: 1 John 4:16 (NKJV)
“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”
Devotional:
In 2021 I made a video that went viral around the world. I sacrificed my aviation career to defend my liberty of conscience.
This catapulted me into a life that was not in my plans for the autumn of my years. I was about to embark on a journey into the inner world of humanity. Deep diving below the surface of what made me and others tick.
I found myself in the belly of the beast one day and in the glory of the love of others the next…..hot and cold. What a severe contrast.
Since then I have seen the best and the worst of humanity.
What defined the two groups?
Love/Hatred…..those who carried themselves through the dark forrest of fear with a compassion for others; and those who were lost in that forrest drowning in the fear and a desire to preserve themselves and their agendas supported in hatred.
The selfless and the selfish.
In the profound words of the apostle John, we encounter a fundamental truth that transcends human understanding – the essence of God is love. This love, divine and boundless, is not merely an attribute of God but is inherent to His very being. As we come to know and believe in this love, we are invited into a profound communion with the Creator of the universe.
The love of God is not distant or abstract; it is personal and intimate. It is a love that pursues us relentlessly, regardless of our flaws or failures. It is a love that knows us fully and yet embraces us completely. It is a love that surpasses all human comprehension, offering us a glimpse of the eternal.
As believers, we are called to abide in this love – to make our home in its embrace and to allow it to permeate every aspect of our lives. When we abide in love, we abide in God Himself, for He is the source and embodiment of all love. In the embrace of divine love, we find true fulfilment and purpose.
As we meditate on this passage, let’s consider three questions:
- How has experiencing the love of God transformed my understanding of myself and others?
- In what ways can I actively live in God’s love in my daily life?
- How does knowing that God is love impact the way I view and interact with the world around me?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the unfailing love that You pour out upon us each day. Help us to know and believe in this love more deeply, that we may abide in You and reflect Your love to the world around us. May Your love be the guiding light that illuminates our path and sustains us through every trial. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
