Week 4 - Day 1 - The Being Of God
|
Scripture: Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Reflection:
If there is one topic in the understanding of the nature of God, that causes more confusion than any other it is the God Head; the relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Ask twenty different scholars about the God Head and you will get twenty different answers. As beginners we need to keep it simple right? So here goes my simple version.
We can all accept that we are made up of a mind, body and spirit, right? To be totally well we need to be healthy in all three because each relies on the other for wellbeing. The scripture tells us that God said at creation; “Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.”Genesis 1 verse 26. Notice that God spoke of Himself in the plural and not the singular?
Lets compare the God Head to a computer for example. A computer comprises the hardware, software and the operation system. The way I see it; and a thousand may disagree with me, is that God the Father is the hardware, God the Son, Jesus is the software and God the Holy Spirit is the operating system.
Jesus is the interface between us, the users and God the hardware via the operating system which is the Holy Spirit. Of course satan has a role to play too. He is the computer virus that constantly seeks a way into the computer to destroy and deceive it.
As believers, we encounter the profound mystery of the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This revelation encapsulates the multifaceted nature of our Creator, our Saviour, and our Sustainer. Contemplating the Godhead invites us into deeper intimacy and understanding of the divine mystery.
When we invite Jesus into our hearts, He manifests Himself in that cherished place as the Holy Spirit. When this happens so does the magic. He does the behaving for us. He refines and corrects our character and He leads us to all understanding based on where He sees us and what we are ready for.
If we allow all three into our hearts as one then we become one with them and the only one who loses is satan.
Questions for Reflection:
- What is the first thing on your to do list that you want the Holy Spirit to do in your life?
- How will this impact your relationship with God and others?
- How can you invite the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit into your daily life more intentionally?
Prayer:
Gracious Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Papa God, we come before you in awe of your triune nature. Help us to comprehend, to the extent possible, the depth of your love revealed in this divine mystery. Teach us to live in communion with each aspect of your being, experiencing your presence in every moment of our lives. May our understanding of the God head lead us to love you more deeply and to love others more fully. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
