Week 8 - Day 6 - A Relationship With Jesus
|
The Promise of Presence
Scripture: Matthew 28:20 (NKJV)
“teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Devotional:
Let’s be honest. We have all started this journey together because we can hear a train coming. Something just doesn’t seem quite right does it? We can’t believe that we live in a time where accepting the un-acceptable seems to be a badge of honour.
At a time where the institutions we all trusted and lived by have turned a corner towards absolute and unified control, we have been searching for someone or something to place our faith and trust in. We are even turning away from once held atheistic and new age views to our Divine Designer.
In this passage Jesus is preparing his beloved disciples for what is coming and giving them the basic instructions. He is telling them that there is an end to this age while promising them the beginning of a new one for those who choose it.
Some will say that I am living in a fools paradise. But I say to all who will listen. I have never felt better or stronger. I have never slept as well and felt more at peace despite the looming clouds of darkness.
Why?
My faith in Jesus has been well placed and in His mercy, grace and forgiveness I can honestly say.
It is well with my soul.
In the closing words of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus leaves His disciples with a profound promise: His perpetual presence. As they embark on the mission of making disciples of all nations, Jesus assures them that they will never be alone. His presence will be with them every step of the way, from the beginning of their journey to the very end of the age.
This promise of presence is not limited to the disciples of Jesus’ time but extends to all believers throughout history. As followers of Christ, we can take comfort in the assurance that He is with us always, regardless of our circumstances or challenges. His presence is our constant companion, guiding us, strengthening us, and empowering us to fulfil the Great Commission.
The reality of Christ’s presence in our lives should inspire confidence, courage, and obedience. Knowing that He is with us enables us to step out in faith, to proclaim His truth boldly, and to persevere in the face of adversity. His presence transforms our ordinary moments into sacred encounters, as we walk in communion with Him each day.
Reflection Questions:
- How does the promise of Christ’s perpetual presence impact your daily walk with Him? Reflect on specific instances where you have experienced His presence in your life.
- In what areas of your life do you need to be more conscious of Christ’s presence? How can you cultivate a greater awareness of His nearness in those areas?
- Consider the significance of Jesus’ promise to be with us “even to the end of the age.” How does this eternal assurance shape your perspective on the future and give you hope for what lies ahead?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Papa God.
Thank you for the precious promise of Your Son’s presence in our lives. Help us to be ever mindful of His nearness, drawing strength and courage from the assurance that He is with us always. Guide us by Your Spirit as we seek to fulfil Your purposes on earth, knowing that we do not journey alone. May the reality of Christ’s presence transform our lives and empower us to be faithful witnesses of Your love to the ends of the earth. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
