CWW Week 26 - Day 3 - What Is Church?
|
Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love
and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the
habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as
you see the Day approaching.”
This passage underscores the importance of fellowship and regular
gathering together as believers. The church is not just a spiritual
family but a support network for growth and encouragement.
I have said before that it is unlikely that Jesus will stand at the foot
of your bed each morning with a list of corrections from yesterday.
This is why our relationships are important as we sharpen each
other on the journey of life and character development. For this to
occur we need to ensure that our friends and family are on the
same wavelength.
The fellowship of believers has always been what God intended as
we journey to eternal life in Him.
When the apostles set out to take the good news to the world the
message was simple and straight forward. It had not been
overloaded with policy and doctrinal differences. It was easy to be
of one accord. So much has changed.
For the church to grow and be seen as a safe place being of one
accord is vital. Such churches grow and thrive in the joy of
acceptance as everyday the family of God grows in character
under the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit. This is achieved when we
see each other and ourselves as a work in progress constantly
growing in spiritual maturity in prayer and loving support.
Conflict should make way for conversation and gossip must be
avoided.
Satan will use every trick in the book to bring God’s household
undone and gossip and disharmony are his favourite tools.
I once heard a man in the church ask another person who was
gossiping if he would say that about the other if he knew Jesus
was standing beside him? The man skulked away.
The family of God thrives in truth and grows in its light. We need to
challenge each other gently and with love as we grow ourselves
along the way. Healthy relationships thrive and grow in truth.
Todays scripture encourages us to spur each other on giving good
counsel and encouragement. We must keep meeting regularly to
enrich our family experience as we continue to develop on the
journey.
We are told to double down on our efforts as we see the day
approaching and it is fast approaching. As the song goes; “people
get ready for there”s a train a coming.”
The time to build and grow thriving churches is now for there truly
is no time to lose. As times become darker in an increasingly evil
world the need will only become greater. Now is the time to grow
and nurture our churches as the body of Christ and stay closer to
Jesus with every passing day.
We must do this as if our very lives depended own it. Because it
does.
Questions.
1. Do you feel safe at church?
2. Can you be yourself without having to perform when you come
together?
3. Who are you performing for when you go to church?
Prayer.
Dear Lord, Papa God.
Help me to see that it is You who knows my heart better than
anyone else. Help me to be encouraging of others as I see them
the same way as I see myself; a work in progress. As I seek the
body of Christ please guide me to a safe place where I can trust
and grow in the fullness of your household. For this is my prayer in
the precious name of Jesus.
Amen.
Have a great day today with Jesus.
Graham Hood.
