CWW Week 26 - Day 6 - What Is Church?

WEEK 26 DAY 6 WHAT IS CHURCH
Colossians 1:18
“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning
and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he
might have the supremacy.”
— This verse stresses the supremacy of Christ as the head of the
church. He’s not just its foundation, but its leader, and all things in
the church are to revolve around Him.
However we do Church it must always honour Christ and His
supremacy. He is the author and finisher of our faith.
Hebrews 12:2, which says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith.”
The ultimate authority belongs to the author. He alone knows how
His plans are meant to play out. He alone understands the
intricacies of His purpose for our lives and our destiny.
It is not up to a high powered cleric or Pope to change the plans of
God because they do not hold the authority.
I am seeing more and more as each day goes by just how
important it is to have a direct relationship with Jesus without being
filtered through the trappings of corporate denominational control.
I once had an old motor boat when I was a teenager. It had a very
old petrol engine in it and it was about forty years old.
I was having trouble starting this simple little single cylinder motor
so I looked in the phone book to find someone who could help.
I imagine my surprise to see that the manufacturers was still
functioning.
I called the number and a wise older voice answered the phone. I
shared my problem and asked if there was someone to help.
The old man replied that he was happy to come to the water and
hop onto the boat and see what he could do.
He caught a train to come to me. I met him at the station and he
was wrinkled with age and had a gentle voice. He wore neatly
pleated trousers, a plaid shirt and a tweed vest. In his shirt pocketWEEK 26 DAY 6 WHAT IS CHURCH
was an old pipe and he had a small screw driver and spanner in his
vest pocket. Wearing an old hat he looked like he stepped out of
the nineteen forties.
I rowed him out to the mooring in a dingy and he had it running in
less that ten minutes using the only two tools he brought with him.
He was humble and honest and his wisdom struck me.
“Been workin’ on these for a while have you mate?” I asked him?
“Yes indeed,” he replied. “I designed and built them. This engine is
named after me.” It was a Blaxland motor.
Jesus knows us intimately. He has numbered every hair on our
head and we can come to Him in confidence knowing that he is
the most authorised to deal with our brokenness. Why would we go
anywhere else?
You have His number. He is still in the phonebook and had been for
over two thousand years. He loves us enough that He pulls the
blueprint of our lives every day to redraw the plan around the
mistakes we made the day before.
You have a golden opportunity to re establish your God given
destiny in the company of a whole bunch of other works in
progress.
Church is not a place to feel uncomfortable or condemned. It is not
a place for selfish control or condemnation. It is a hospital for
sinners who are restored in the power of the Holy Spirit under the
Masters hand.
Don’t be afraid of church. Embrace it.
Questions
1. Do you feel judged in church?
2. Are you the one doing the judging?
3. Can you come as you are to Jesus?
Prayer.
Dear Lord, Papa God.
I am amazed that you would make yourself available for me. That
you would consider me so much as to continue to walk this journey
with me. Papa please give me a heart of flesh and help me when I
come to church to leave my judgement in the bin at the door.
Lord I pray that you will continue to fit me for the great day when
Your supremacy will shine above the darkness.
For this is my prayer in the precious name of Jesus. Amen
Have a great day today with Jesus.
Graham Hood.
