CWW Week 40 - Loyalty - Day 2
|
Devotional Title: “Choose Today: A Life of Unshakable Loyalty”
📖 Scripture: “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15 (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Life is full of choices—some small, some life-altering. In Joshua 24:15, we’re brought to a moment of decision. After leading Israel into the Promised Land and witnessing God’s mighty acts, Joshua stands before the people and challenges them to make a clear, personal, and permanent choice: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”
Loyalty doesn’t happen by accident. It requires a decision. Joshua wasn’t forcing anyone’s hand, but he was making one thing crystal clear: you can’t serve God with half your heart. God wants full devotion—not just rituals, not just convenience, not just belief in name only.
When Joshua said, “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord,” he wasn’t just making a statement. He was drawing a line in the sand. In a time when other nations worshiped idols and blended truth with error, Joshua chose to stand firm. His loyalty was rooted in gratitude, built on relationship, and lived out through action.
In our world today, divided loyalty is common. People want to serve God and self, and success, and society’s approval. But Jesus reminded us in Matthew 6:24 that no one can serve two masters. Loyalty means exclusivity—God wants to be first in your heart, not one option among many.
Joshua’s words are still relevant. You and I may not be choosing between Baal or the Lord, but we are often tempted to compromise—by putting career above calling, pleasure above principle, or popularity above truth. Every day, we are invited to choose: Will we live for God fully, or will we drift with the crowd?
True loyalty to God is not just about Sunday or Sabbath worship. It’s about the way we speak, the way we treat others, the priorities we hold, and the decisions we make behind closed doors. Loyalty means aligning every part of our lives—our time, our money, our relationships, our goals—with the will of God. It means we don’t bend with culture; we stand with truth, even when it costs us something.
Joshua made that bold declaration not just as an individual, but on behalf of his household. This reminds us of the influence we carry within our homes and relationships. Whether you’re a parent, a child, a sibling, a spouse, or a friend, your loyalty to God can impact those around you. Your life can speak louder than your words. Your consistency can point others to Christ.
And let’s be honest: this kind of loyalty isn’t always easy. Sometimes it means swimming against the current. It may involve sacrifice. But loyalty to God brings a peace and purpose that nothing else can offer. When we give God our full allegiance, He fills our lives with direction, strength, and eternal hope.
Joshua’s challenge is urgent: “Choose this day.” Not tomorrow. Not when life gets easier. Not when you’ve figured everything out. Now. Because the decisions you make today are shaping the person you’re becoming and the legacy you’re leaving behind.
So let’s stand up like Joshua did. Let’s stop wavering between two opinions. Let’s say with courage and clarity: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Reflection Questions
- What influences in my life are pulling me away from wholehearted loyalty to God?
- In what areas do I need to recommit my household or personal life to serving the Lord?
- How can I make daily decisions that reflect my choice to follow God fully?
Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, Papa God,
Today I hear Your call to choose—to choose You, to choose loyalty, to choose life. I don’t want to be divided in my heart. I want to serve You with everything I am. Give me the courage to stand firm when it’s hard and the grace to lead others toward You. Help my home to be a place where You are honoured, loved, and obeyed. Forgive me for the times I’ve wavered. Strengthen me to walk in truth, even when the world goes the other way. I choose You today. I choose You every day. You are my God, and I am Yours.
In Jesus’ precious name I pray,
Amen.
Have a great day today with Jesus.
Graham Hood.
