CWW Week 40 - Loyalty - Day 3
|
Devotional Title: “No Room for Two: Choosing Undivided Loyalty”
📖 Scripture: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” — Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Loyalty is never neutral—it requires a choice. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus makes that unmistakably clear. “No one can serve two masters.” It’s a statement that hits straight to the heart. We all serve something or someone. The question is not if we serve, but whom we serve.
Jesus wasn’t just talking about money—though He did specifically name it because of its powerful grip on the human heart. He was talking about loyalty, devotion, and what truly rules our lives. You can’t have two centres. You can’t live with divided allegiance. You can’t say “yes” to God and still bow to other masters—whether that’s money, fame, comfort, pride, relationships, or even self.
Why? Because eventually, the two paths will pull in opposite directions. One will call you to sacrifice, while the other will call you to self-indulgence. One will lead you to eternal life, the other to temporary gain and lasting emptiness. At some point, you’ll have to choose. Jesus says, “You cannot serve both.”
Many people try to live in between. They want God’s blessing, but not His Lordship. They want peace, but not obedience. They want heaven, but still flirt with the world. But Jesus doesn’t accept part-time loyalty. He’s not looking for weekend worshipers—He’s seeking full-time disciples.
God’s love is whole and undivided. His mercy is complete. His sacrifice was total. How can we offer Him anything less?
Undivided loyalty means that God isn’t just a priority—He’s the priority. Every decision, goal, and desire is filtered through His will. It means we trust Him enough to walk away from anything that competes for our heart. It means we recognise the dangers of wealth, fame, or comfort becoming idols—even if they look good on the outside.
Money in itself is not evil. In fact, it’s a tool that can be used for great good when surrendered to God. But when it becomes the master, it distorts our values, weakens our faith, and enslaves our heart. It shifts our focus from the eternal to the temporary. That’s why Jesus warns us—not to shame us, but to set us free.
So how do we choose God as our only Master?
- Daily surrender. We wake up each morning saying, “God, I am Yours. Lead me.”
- Regular heart checks. We ask, “What’s driving my choices—faith or fear, God or gain?”
- Intentional living. We align our time, money, and energy with what honours Him most.
When God becomes the Master of our lives, He also becomes the source of our peace, our purpose, and our provision. He doesn’t enslave us—He frees us. He doesn’t burden us—He carries us. He doesn’t use us—He transforms us.
Serving God with undivided loyalty may not always be easy. It may cost you friends, opportunities, or comfort. But it will never cost you peace, joy, or eternal hope. In fact, Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” When we put God first, everything else falls into its proper place.
So, what master is ruling your life today? Who truly sits on the throne of your heart? Jesus invites you to make a bold and freeing choice: Let Him be your only Master.
Reflection Questions
- Are there areas in my life where I’m trying to serve two masters?
- What are some ways money or success might be subtly shaping my decisions or priorities?
- How can I practice undivided loyalty to God in my daily choices this week?
Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, Papa God,
You know my heart better than I do. You see the things that fight for my attention and affection. Today, I choose You. I don’t want to serve two masters. I don’t want to live a divided life. Help me to trust You enough to let go of anything that pulls me away from You. Teach me to be loyal—not just with my words, but with my actions, thoughts, and desires. Be the Master of my time, my work, my money, and my future. I surrender all to You. Thank You for being faithful and kind. I love You, and I choose You again today.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
Have a great day today with Jesus.
