CWW Week 31 - Dealing With Pain - Day 4
|
“GLORY BEYOND THE PAIN” Based on Romans 8:18 (NIV)
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Pain can feel overwhelming. It clouds our thoughts, weighs heavy on our hearts, and sometimes makes us question everything. In moments of suffering, we want answers, relief, or even just for someone to acknowledge how hard it is. The apostle Paul knew suffering well. He lived through shipwrecks, beatings, imprisonment, and constant danger. And yet, in Romans 8:18, he speaks a powerful truth: the pain we endure now doesn’t compare to the glory that’s coming.
Paul isn’t minimising our suffering. He’s giving us perspective. Present sufferings are real. But future glory is more real. That might seem abstract in the middle of heartache, but Paul is pointing us to hope. He reminds us that God is working out a purpose that goes beyond what we can see or feel right now.
When Paul talks about glory, he’s not just talking about heaven as a far-off idea. He’s speaking about the fullness of God’s presence, our ultimate redemption, and the complete restoration of all things. It’s the moment when pain ends, tears are wiped away, and everything broken is made whole. That future is assured for those who are in Christ.
For now, we live in a world where pain still exists. But Romans 8 assures us that pain is not the final word. Just a few verses later (Romans 8:28), Paul writes that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” Even our suffering is being woven into God’s greater plan. That doesn’t mean the pain is good. But it does mean it won’t be wasted.
In Australian culture, there’s often a push to stay strong, keep moving, and not dwell on what’s hard. But the Bible gives us permission to feel deeply and to hope boldly at the same time. It invites us to bring our pain to God while also lifting our eyes to what is ahead.
It’s comforting to know that even when life is painful, our future in Christ is secure. Our present sorrows are temporary. The joy that’s coming is eternal. And while we wait, we’re not alone. The Holy Spirit comforts and strengthens us. The church walks with us. And Christ, who suffered too, understands.
So if you’re walking through a hard season, hold on to this truth: what you’re facing now is real, but it’s not the end. There is glory ahead. There is healing, joy, and peace that surpasses anything we’ve ever known. This hope is an anchor for the soul.
Let Paul’s words sink in today. Your present pain is not the whole story. A greater glory is coming—one that will make every tear and every trial worth it.
Reflection Questions
- What current suffering or challenge do I need to view through the lens of future glory?
- How does this verse encourage me to persevere in difficult times?
- Who in my life could be encouraged by this promise of hope, and how can I share it with them?
Dear Lord, Papa God,
Thank You for the promise that my present sufferings are not the end of the story. Help me to trust in the glory that is coming—the fullness of Your presence and restoration. When life feels heavy, give me strength to endure, faith to believe, and eyes to see beyond the pain. Let my heart rest in the hope that You are making all things new.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Have a great day today with Jesus.
