CWW Week 38 - Sharing - Day 3
|
Title: “Ready to Share”
Based on 1 Timothy 6:18 (NIV):
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
In our Aussie culture, there’s something truly beautiful about mateship—having each other’s backs, pitching in, and not letting someone go without when you’ve got plenty. Whether it’s shouting someone a cuppa, giving a neighbour a lift, or dropping off a meal when someone’s crook, that generosity of spirit runs deep.
But in Paul’s letter to Timothy, this idea of sharing goes even deeper. He writes to remind believers, especially those who are well-off, not just to enjoy what they’ve got, but to do good, be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
It’s not just a casual suggestion—it’s a command.
That’s a bit of a wake-up call, isn’t it?
More Than Just Giving Stuff
Sharing doesn’t always mean handing over money or things. It’s an attitude of the heart. It’s about recognising that everything we have is from God, and we’re not owners—we’re stewards. Whether we’ve got a lot or a little, the call to share isn’t based on how full your bank account is—it’s about being willing.
God’s not asking us to become poor. He’s inviting us to be rich in good deeds. That’s a different kind of wealth—a wealth that blesses others and honours God. It might look like:
- Helping a struggling family with groceries
- Taking time to visit someone lonely
- Mentoring a younger believer
- Opening your home to someone who needs a safe place for a while
It’s not always comfortable. Sometimes, it means making sacrifices. But the beauty is, when we share from what God’s given us, we reflect His heart. We show people a glimpse of what His kingdom is like.
Holding Things Loosely
In our modern world, there’s a big push for personal success. More stuff, more security, more independence. But the gospel flips that on its head. Jesus didn’t cling to His rights. He gave up heaven to walk among us. He shared His very life so we could have eternal life.
If we’re following Jesus, we’re called to live the same way—holding things loosely, ready to give, and quick to respond when the Holy Spirit prompts us.
The early church modelled this brilliantly. In Acts 2, we read that they shared everything they had, and “there were no needy persons among them” (Acts 4:34). They weren’t forced to do it—it just flowed out of their love for Jesus and each other.
That’s what Paul’s getting at in 1 Timothy. Not reluctant giving. Not guilt-driven giving. But generous, joy-filled sharing that says, “God’s given me this so I can bless others.”
Eternal Investment
The most powerful part of 1 Timothy 6 is what comes right after verse 18. In verse 19, Paul says that by doing these things—by being generous and willing to share—we’re laying up treasure for ourselves as a firm foundation for the coming age.
In other words, when we share on earth, we’re investing in eternity.
That’s the kind of return that never crashes like a stock market or fades like trends. What you give in love, in generosity, in faith—it echoes forever.
So, how are you using what God’s given you?
Are you building a bigger shed to store it all—or opening your hands and heart to be part of God’s bigger story?
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re flat out working a trade, managing a farm, studying at uni, or raising a family—God’s call to be generous and ready to share applies to all of us. It’s not about how much we’ve got, but about how available we are to be a blessing.
The good news? When we live like that, we’re not just helping others—we’re stepping into the life that’s truly life (1 Timothy 6:19).
Let’s live open-handed and open-hearted, ready to share, just as Jesus did.
Reflection Questions
- Is there something you’re holding onto that God might be asking you to share or give away?
- How can you use your time or talents this week to bless someone in need?
- What would change in your daily life if you saw your resources as tools for God’s kingdom instead of personal gain?
Prayer
Dear Lord, Papa God,
Thank You for every good thing You’ve placed in my life. You are the ultimate Giver, and everything I have is from You. Teach me to be generous, to hold things lightly, and to share willingly. Stir my heart to be rich in good deeds and to live a life that reflects Your love and kindness. Show me where I can be a blessing this week, and help me to respond quickly when You prompt me. May my life bring glory to You, and may others see Jesus through my sharing.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Have a great day today with Jesus.
