Title: “Refresh Others, Be Refreshed”

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV):
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

We live in a culture that values the hustle—work hard, get ahead, secure your future. There’s nothing wrong with being wise about finances or putting in a good day’s work, but the Bible gives us a different kind of wisdom when it comes to how we view what we have.

Proverbs 11:25 flips the script on the world’s version of success. It tells us that the truly prosperous person isn’t the one who clings tightly to everything they’ve got—but the one who gives it away.

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

There’s a divine principle here: God blesses those who bless others. When we give, when we share, when we live open-handed—we don’t run dry. In fact, we’re refreshed.

What Does It Mean to “Refresh Others”?

It’s more than just tossing someone a few bucks or helping out now and then (although those are important too). To “refresh others” is to lift someone’s spirits, ease their burden, bring hope, or simply remind them they’re not alone.

In everyday Aussie life, that might look like:

  • Shouting someone a meal when they’re doing it tough
  • Lending a listening ear over a cuppa when a mate’s struggling
  • Babysitting for a single parent who hasn’t had a break in months
  • Dropping off some groceries to someone in isolation

It doesn’t have to be big or flashy. Often, it’s the quiet, unseen acts of kindness that refresh people the most.

Sharing Is a Heart Posture

Generosity isn’t about how much you have—it’s about the posture of your heart. You can have a little and still be incredibly generous. You can have heaps and still be stingy.

God isn’t measuring the dollar value of what we give. He’s looking at whether we’re willing to share. Are we tuned in to the needs around us? Do we live with open hands or clenched fists?

It’s not about being a doormat or giving beyond what’s wise. But it is about being available to God—ready to give what He’s put in your hands to meet the needs He puts in your path.

The Backwards Kingdom

Here’s the amazing bit: when you pour out for others, you don’t miss out. God doesn’t let you run empty. Proverbs 11:25 says that when we refresh others, we ourselves are refreshed.

That might be emotional, spiritual, or even physical. You help someone else, and somehow your own heart feels lighter. You show up for a mate, and suddenly your own problems seem a bit smaller. That’s how the kingdom of God works—it’s upside down to the world.

The world says, “Store up, protect, hoard.”
God says, “Give, share, bless—and watch Me take care of you.”

It doesn’t always mean you’ll be rolling in cash or that life will be easy. But it does mean you’ll have what you need—and often, far more than that. The generous life is full of meaning, joy, and deep satisfaction. It’s a life of refreshing, not just for others—but for you too.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example

Jesus lived this out to the full. His whole life was about refreshing others—healing the sick, feeding the hungry, comforting the broken, and ultimately laying down His life for all of us.

He didn’t hold anything back. And He’s still refreshing hearts today—including yours.

When we share with others, we’re living like Jesus. We’re becoming His hands and feet. And in the process, we get to taste the joy of being part of something eternal.

Final Thoughts

Sharing isn’t just a good deed—it’s a lifestyle that reflects the heart of God. And it’s a life that brings true prosperity. Not just in stuff, but in peace, purpose, and presence.

You don’t have to wait until you have “more” to be generous. Start with what’s in your hand today. God will take your small offering and multiply it in ways you can’t imagine.

So go ahead—refresh someone. And trust that in God’s beautiful, upside-down kingdom, He’ll refresh you right back.

Reflection Questions

  1. Who in your life might need “refreshing” this week—emotionally, spiritually, or practically?
  2. What resources (time, skills, finances, encouragement) has God placed in your hands to share?
  3. Are there any fears or hesitations holding you back from being more generous? Bring those to God.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Papa God,
Thank You for being the most generous Giver. You’ve poured out so much into my life—Your love, Your grace, and every good thing I need. Help me to live with open hands and an open heart. Teach me to be generous with my time, my words, my resources, and my care for others. Show me who needs refreshing today, and give me the courage to act. May my life be a channel of Your kindness, and may I find joy in blessing others. Refresh me as I refresh others, and keep shaping me to be more like Jesus.
In His name I pray,
Amen.

Have a great day today with Jesus.
